.hy off CH OEM Mapper Installer Version 1.20 Readme File ===================================================== Welcome to the CH OEM Mapper Installer Program. This Disk contains all the files necessary to create a fresh install or to update an existing install of the CH OEM Mapper under Windows 98, Windows 98 SE, Windows ME, Windows 2000 or Windows XP. Removing Previous Installations =============================== If you've installed an earlier version of the CH OEM Mapper, you should unplug all your CH USB Devices and uninstall the previous version before proceeding. You can do this via the "Add/Remove Program" options in the Windows Control Panel. For earlier versions of the OEM Mapper, you also need to uninstall the CH Control Manager Driver subsystem. To do this, you need to use the Windows Device Manager and manually remove the entry for "CH Control Manager" under "System" devices. For versions later than 1.10, this second step is unnecessary. In either case, you should restart Windows after the uninstallation to be sure that all drivers have been removed from system memory. Notes for Windows 98, Windows 98 SE, and Windows ME =================================================== Before installing the OEM Mapper in Windows 98, Windows 98 SE or Windows ME, be sure to unplug all your CH USB devices. If any CH USB devices are connected, it can interfere with the installation process. Once all devices are disconnected your ready to begin the installation. Notes for Windows 2000 and Windows XP ===================================== In Windows 2000 and Windows XP, your CH USB devices should be plugged in and operating as standard HID-compliant game controllers before beginning the OEM Mapper installation. The devices will be updated during the installation process. If you later add a new CH device, there is no need to rerun this install however. The new device will be updated when you use the OEM Mapper software to calibrate the new device. Installation Procedure ====================== The actual installation is simple. Click the "Start" button on the Windows Desktop. Select "Run" and then "Browse" your way to the file "Setup.exe" that came with this installation. Highlight the Setup.exe file, click "Open", and then click "OK". The installer will lead you through the installation process. If the installer detects a currently installed version of the Control Manager Drivers, it will post a dialog and give you the chance to cancel the install so you can uninstall and remove the existing installation. You should do this as installing over an earlier version may create problems. See the User's Guide for your current version of the OEM Mapper for information on uninstalling it. During installation, you will receive a number of "New Hardware Found" messages. This is normal as the OEM Mapper must install several "virtual" devices to support it's operation. You may also be prompted for the Windows CD so it's a good idea to have that handy. In some cases, you may receive a message informing you that a file on the hard disk is a later version than the one on the Windows CD. You'll be given the option of keeping the newer file. You should ALWAYS keep the newer file. This is usually the result of an upgraded version of DirectX having been installed after the OS version was released. Note that some of the hardware may take several seconds to install. Be patient and make sure that the process is complete before you proceed past the installation. Using the OEM Mapper ========================= Once the installation is complete, the OEM Mapper is ready to use. If you're running one of the Windows 98 variants, you'll need to plug your CH USB devices in before you can use them. With all versions, you'll need to run the OEM Mapper GUI and calibrate the controllers before they can be used. For more information on how to do this, you should check the OEM Mapper User's Guide. This will have been installed along with the rest of the OEM Mapper software. Both the User's Guide and the OEM Mapper GUI (CHMapper.exe) are available in the OEM Mapper program group. To access them, click the "Start" button on the Windows Desktop, then select "Programs". A menu should open, highlight "CH Products", then "OEM Mapper" and you can start both the User's Guide and the OEM Mapper GUI from there. The User's Guide is also available from the OEM Mapper GUI via the "Help" button.
