MMRC Restart Information

All researchers must complete the CALTECH Health Attestation and Location Log before reporting to campus each day, and then document contacts with other people and locations visited on campus at the end of your shiftN.

MMRC New User Training

Only trained users are allowed to use MMRC instruments. For training users must be vaccinated against the virus that causes Covid19. Users must supply a PTA number when they are trained to pay for Instrument Charges. Untrained peopled are not allowed to operate any instrument. Caltech researchers who want to use the Center's instruments should read the instrument's manual (see the MMRC website for the instrument) and follow the instructions here.

The hourly rates for instrumentation usage and training in the MMRC are given here.

MMRC Instrument Labs (B223, B221,B219) Restart

  • All users need to be vaccinated unless they receive special permission from the Director
  • Up to three users at a time are allowed in an MMRC instrument Lab (labs are 550 sq ft each).
  • Researchers must wear a face mask while in the building.
  • Users must reserved instrument on the MMRC scheduling websitet before use .
  • Users must sign into the instrument Logbook
  • Researchers must wash hands and disinfect their work areas at start and end of their run.
  • Researcher should use only the bench space reserved for the instrument.

Instrument Problems and GLAs

  • If users have problems with an instrument, they should notify they GLA and include their cell number.
  • GLAs will try and resolve problems remotely.
  • If the GLA needs to come to the lab the user should clean the areas they have worked in and follow instructions of GLA.
  • If the user needs to occupy the lab with the GLA they need to maintain >6 ft distance between them.
  • Users should never undertake a repair of an instrument without spicific instructions from a GLA.

Sanitation Protocols

  • Spray bottles with 70% ethanol or isopropanol solution, paper towel, and hand soap are available in every laboratory. .
  • Reserved bench space is marked for each instrument..
  • Users need to clean the bench area, computer, workstation, and instrument at the start and end of a users shift, .
  • Users should follow good lab hygiene and all ES&H procedures mandated during the pandemic.
